South Florida is home to the largest mangrove forest in North America. These mangrove estuaries are refuges for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators and a gamut of fish.
At points where passages narrow, the mangrove forest grows to form a foliage tunnel. The sunlight shimmering through the canopy mixed with the stillness of the forest vegetation make for a surreal and mystical experience.
